ABF Conference, Orlando, 2010

IBRA at the ABF Confernce, Orlando.

Thanks to the American Beekeeping Federation for their warm hospitality in Orlando last week. It was a great opportunity for Sarah and Richard to catch-up with IBRA members and friends on the otherside of the Atlantic. We are particularly grateful to Virginia Webb of Webb's Mountain Honey Farm for sponsoring our stand.

IBRA's new Greeting Cards !

We would like to say a big "Thank you" to Carole Stevens for allowing us to use her fantastic photographs for our new set of greeting cards.

Carole, a keen photographer, approached us earlier in the year and asked if we would be interested in her photos and could they be used in some way to help IBRA. We were delighted with the offer!

These attractive cards are now on sale in our shop - so support IBRA and buy your Bee Cards here!

Thank you Greenlife!

Greenlife recently held a 'Bee Awareness' event at their store in Totnes, Devon, U.K. They contacted IBRA for information leaflets and promotional material, and we were delighted to help them spread the word about bees!

Greenlife also raised funds for IBRA and we are grateful for their donation.                                                   (July, 2009)

New Eva Crane Publication

Although Dr Crane left this world in September 2007 one of her studies, never before published, has just seen the light of day via the Internet. Terms in Indo-European languages for some concepts related to honey, bees and hives

The article appears on Dublin University's School of Celtic Studies web site:

www.celt.dias.ie/publications/online/beearticle

In the paper there is much interesting information and two useful tables showing the similarities, and dissimilarities, of words for a number of bee products. Such words also give an insight into the ways in which communities regarded these products in early times. A useful adjunct to this work is the table on words covering honey and honeydew that appeared in Honey by another name (Jones, R. Buzz Extra Vol 5, No.3 September 2008)

JAAS CoverJournal of ApiProduct
and ApiMedical Science

(JAAS)

It is 46 years since JAR was first published - a journal that grew out of a scientific need. We hope JAAS, which also aims to fill a scientific need in this new and rapidly developing area, will take the same standards of peer reviewed quality, scientific truth and excellence well into 21st century. It will be an Electronic Journal only in order to eliminate crippling printing and postage costs and will be available on the website at the beginning of January 2009.

Already on board are a team of international experts:
Senior Editor Prof Rose Cooper (U.K.) a world authority on the effects of honey and wound care.
Associate Editors: Prof. Vassya Bankova (Bulgaria), Prof. Maria Campos (Portugal), Dr Peter Gallman (Switzerland), Prof. Mitsuo Matsuka (Japan), Dr Cristina Mateescu (Romania), Dr Keith Morris (U.K.), Prof. Karsten Münstedt (Germany) and Prof. Nada Orsolic (Croatia).
Others will be invited to join the editorial board in due course.
